Lester Dent House

Lester and Norma Dent built their "dream home" in 1941. Lester was the author of the "Doc Savage" pulp novels of the 1930's and 40's. He drew up a 12 page blueprint for the house, overseeing it's construction and doing much of the carpentry and finish work himself. Known locally as the "House of Gadgets", the home was a model of modern design for the 1940's. Lester installed an intercom system, electronic garage door opener, a projection booth for movies, a closet room, and other innovations. The fireplace in the basement was built of rocks the Dents had collected on their travels. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Curtis and Judy Franke purchased the home in 1996.
